He Hīkoi Aroha – A journey of Love – Fuelled by Hope – Towards healing and restoration

Mā tātou katoa te pā harakeke e tiaki – It takes a village to raise a child

WARU is a collaborative feature film born out of heartache, love and a determination to protect our tamariki.

It seeks to give voice to those that are often overlooked. WARU hopes to challenge perceptions and open a conversation to create change and support healing.

Our hope is that WARU will inspire kōrero (conversation) and create meaningful dialogue. Our intention is that by engaging our community with the whakaaro (perspectives) represented in the film we will create a safe space that allows for others to contribute their own ideas and experiences.

Like Waru, He Hīkoi Aroha is guided by 8 Pou, or principles:

Manaakitanga, tētahi ki tētahi

Do your best to support and care for others.

Express love for children, for others and for yourself.

WIth one decision you can be your own champion for change.

Reach out and reconnect with others.

Be brave, and speak your truth.

Look within for the power of your ancestors, your atua and your heritage.

Harness the energy of those who have gone before you.

Kia kaha, kia māia

Stand strong and have courage.
